Frequently Asked Questions

Overview Immunoscore

For localized colon cancer, in combination with standard clinicopathologic features, the Immunoscore® result is indicated as an aid to determine the risk of recurrence and to adjust adjuvant chemotherapy decision-making for patients with early-stage colon cancer.

For locally advanced rectal cancer, the Immunoscore® result is indicated as an aid for clinicians to assess the prognosis of LARC cancer in combination with the TNM classification and other relevant clinical and biological, patient’s and tumour’s features. Within patients with a complete clinical response after neo-adjuvant treatment, the test guides physicians in their decision to propose watchful waiting approach to their patients.

Immunoscore® is performed on tumoral tissue from either surgical resection (for localized colon cancer) or biopsy (for locally advanced rectal cancer). It is neither a blood nor a fecal test.

Immunoscore® is validated for localized colon cancer and is also available outside USA for Locally advanced rectal cancer through our Innovation Access program. For further information please contact us directly (contact form)

Immunoscore for Patients

"Immunoscore® must be prescribed by the oncologist managing your treatment. They will be able to determine whether Immunoscore® is an appropriate test for your situation. Once the test is ordered, the Veracyte team will work with your medical team to obtain the necessary tissue samples and ship them to our pathology laboratory.

We will return the results of your test to your doctor in less than 10 days after the sample reaches our facility. "

Immunoscore® is only available in selected regions outside of the US through Innovation Access Programs in expert centers. You can ask your oncologist if such a program is available in your hospital and appropriate for you.

Recent data showed that Immunoscore can predict response to neoadjuvant treatment and can identify patients with rectal cancer eligible for W&W (Watch and Wait or Non-Operative Management) strategy. Confirmation studies are ongoing. In the meantime, Veracyte offers this innovative test to expert centers through dedicated access programs.

Immunoscore for HCP

Immunoscore® is a tissue-based immune test that measures the host's immune response at the site of the tumor. It is performed on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tumor tissue samples from resections of localized colon cancer. The test uses whole slide imaging and artificial intelligence algorithms for assessment of the type, density, and location of T cells in FFPE tumor sections to determine an individual Immunoscore® for each patient.

As soon as the sample is received in our laboratories, it will take no more than 10 working days to provide you with the result.
